Potosí Mine (El Potosí Mine), Francisco Portillo, West Camp, Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdán, Chihuahua, Mexico Hemispherical mass of 3-6 mm quartz and calcite crystals with parallel pyrrhotite crystals up to 6 cm long on one side. Good large specimen with no apparent damage. Has old label from Min. Rec. Auction (Gardner Miller donor). Ex. Earle Sullivan collection (Ct.). Overall size of mineral specimen: 13x9x5 cm. Size of individual crystals: 3-60 mm. |

Potosí Mine (El Potosí Mine), Francisco Portillo, West Camp, Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdán, Chihuahua, Mexico Cluster of sharp, lustrous pyrrhotite crystals up to 21 mm with minor white calcite coating one side of the largest crystal. All crystals complete, with sharp, lustrous faces. No damage. Overall size of mineral specimen: 4x2.5x2 cm. Size of individual crystals: 3-21 mm. |

Potosí Mine (El Potosí Mine), Francisco Portillo, West Camp, Santa Eulalia District, Mun. de Aquiles Serdán, Chihuahua, Mexico I cannot recall ever seeing crystals of these two minerals growing together in this way, not just from Mexico, but from anywhere! I have looked long and hard through a loupe at this specimen. It almost looks as though one of the minerals has pseudomorphed crystals of the other, but apparently that is not the case.
