Nant Helen opencast coal mine, Onllwyn, Neath-Port Talbot (West Glamorgan; Glamorgan), Wales, UK Doubly-terminated quartz crystal, 6cm, with ankerite. Collected 30th May 2009 from a cavity in the sandstone beds at the bottom of the pit. This is the second massive opencast at Nant Helen, the first having been backfilled in the early 2000s. |

Nant Helen opencast coal mine, Onllwyn, Neath-Port Talbot (West Glamorgan; Glamorgan), Wales, UK Quartz crystal, 7cm, with ankerite. The crystal is actually doubly-terminated, the bottom consisting of numerous intergrown small parallel crystals. Collected 30th May 2009 from a cavity in the sandstone beds at the bottom of the pit. This is the second massive opencast at Nant Helen, the first having been backfilled in the early 2000s. |
