Androy Region, Tuléar (Toliara) Province, Madagascar

5.1 x 3.4 x 3 cm. Sapphirine is rarely found in such sharp, nicely formed crystals as from these recent discoveries in Madagascar. The major crystal is 2.5 cm long and doubly-terminated. It is sharp and waxy in lustre. Smaller crystals are all over the backside. Ex. Martin Zinn Collection.

2.1 x 1.9 x 1.4 cm. A sharp, large, indigo-blue sapphirine crystal from Ft. Dauphin, Madagascasr. The moderately lustrous, two-sided crystal is nearly pristine. The embedded matrix is a nice accent. Sapphirine is a rare silicate, named for the blue color allusion and shape of sapphire. Highly representative of the species and locale. Ex. Dick ...
