Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz) : SiO2, Microcline : K[AlSi3O8], Albite : Na[AlSi3O8]

Papachacra, Belen Department, Catamarca, Argentina

The crystals have classic forms and they are very well grown and have very well defined faces and edges. They contrast with the matrix of Microcline on which white Albite has grown.

Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz) : SiO2, Microcline : K[AlSi3O8], Albite : Na[AlSi3O8]

Papachacra, Belen Department, Catamarca, Argentina

18.1 x 12.1 x 7.9 cm. Two large, tabular, 5-cm crystals of smoky quartz lie flat against the matrix of sharp, euhedral crystals of cream-colored microcline - with another quartz of the traditional prismatic form growing at their base. Pale greenish-gray albites are here and there. From a small private collection of long-collected Argentine ...

Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz) : SiO2, Feldspar Group

Papachacra, Belen Department, Catamarca, Argentina

9.0 x 6.7 x 6.4 cm. A matrix of tan albite is the host for a magnificent smoky quartz crystal, 8.3 cm in length. The quartz is dark black, glassy and gemmy and has a central termination surrounded by parallel growth crystals, giving it a cityscape appearance. This is a textbook example of a fine, pristine, smoky quartz specimen. Rarely do you get ...

Papachacra, Belen Department, Catamarca, Argentina

5.7 x 4.2 x 2.5 cm. A fine combination specimen from recent finds at Papachacra, Argentina. Four pristine, gemmy and lustrous smoky quartz crystals to 2.6 cm project upward from a sloping field of sharp, off-white microcline crystals. Pastel-blue albite crystals are richly sprinkled and epitactically grown on the microcline crystals.

Papachacra, Belen Department, Catamarca, Argentina

6.8 x 5.6 x 3.0 cm. A 3.3 cm, striated, glassy and lustrous smoky quartz crystal is set on a plate of pearlescent, parallel-growth bands of echelon cleavelandite blades from recent finds in the Andes Mountains of Argentina.

Quartz (Var: Smoky Quartz) : SiO2

Papachacra, Belen Department, Catamarca, Argentina

8.8 x 2.5 x 2.0 cm. The unusual characteristic of this light smoky, glassy and gemmy, quartz specimen is that certain faces exhibit preferential etching, especially the larger 8.5 cm-tall crystal. The etching is most obvious near the termination of the larger crystal. Light, pleasing color and very gemmy.
