Stannite : Cu2(Fe,Zn)SnS4

Pirquitas Ag-Sn Deposit, Rinconada Department, Jujuy, Argentina

12.6 x 8.3 x 4.4 cm. A solid, heavy, 3.7-pound ore sample of massive "stannite" from this unusual locality, undoubtedly containing other minerals as well. I am told that little research was done on rarities present in ores recovered here in the early days, and that there is suspicion based on recent studies of a wide variety of rare tin and silver ...

Stannite : Cu2(Fe,Zn)SnS4, Quartz : SiO2

Oonah Mine, Zeehan, Zeehan district, Tasmania, Australia

A 6.4 x 4.3 x 3.3 cm mass of dull lead gray stannite and milky quartz. A very good reference quality example for this tin bearing species at this locality.
Most probably from the Oonah Mine (the only mine in the district with Sn minerals).

San José Mine, Oruro City, Cercado Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

Crystals are very sharp, clearly showing its geometrical outline, which is very uncommon on samples from this locality. The paragenesis is completed by Andorite crystals and fine acicular crystals of Zinkenite.

Stannite : Cu2(Fe,Zn)SnS4

San José Mine, Oruro City, Cercado Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

These specimens came out of this mine last year and are among some of my favorite "new finds" from Bolivia. This piece features some VERY large, semi lustrous, sharp, dark "brass" colored, twinned crystals of the rare copper iron tin sulfide Stannite. The Stannite crystals are virtually as large as individual crystals of Stannite get from any ...

Stannite : Cu2(Fe,Zn)SnS4, Zinkenite : Pb9Sb22S42

San José Mine, Oruro City, Cercado Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

These specimens came out of this mine years and years ago, but are still some of the most unique and rare association specimens from any locality. This piece features some good size, semi lustrous, sharp, dark "brass" colored, twinned crystals of the rare copper iron tin sulfide Stannite associated with dozens of excellent quality, highly ...

Twinned, giant (for the species) and sharp crystals of Stannite. It came from the finds of old miners in the famous San José Mine. The sample is exceptional both for the quality of Stannite and its esthetics and for the presence of acicular crystals of Zinkenite.
