By the MSH astrophyllite/kupletskite rules of thumb given by Paula Piilonen (CMMA Newsletter Mar/Apr 2004) I would expect this to be kupletskite, with the lighter rims being niobokupletskite. This is from another part of the specimen in photo #168179. Differences in lighting exaggerate the real differences in color. This is a well terminated xl. Not analyzed but most likely astrophyllite by the "rules of thumb" for MSH developed by Paula Piilonen (CMN). |

But by the "rules of thumb" for MSH (only!) developed by Paula Piilonen (Canadian Museum of Nature) this is very likely astrophyllite. Much more interesting in stereo (child photo). Updated Sept 2009 using stacking and added stereo pair. |
