Winchite : ☐[CaNa][Mg4(Al,Fe3+)][(OH)2|Si8O22], Sodalite (Var: Hackmanite) : Na8Al6Si6O24(Cl2,S)

Koksha Valley (Kokscha; Kokcha), Badakhshan (Badakshan; Badahsan) Province, Afghanistan

A mass of bladed white winchite and massive crystalline sodalite var. hackmanite. There are two areas of hackmanite in this rock, one area is 3cm X 3cm, the other 2.2cm X 2.2cm. There is one perfect 5mm terminated crystal at the top of the specimen. The natural colour is a pale purple - more intense in daylight. In UV light the thing becomes a ...

Winchite : ☐[CaNa][Mg4(Al,Fe3+)][(OH)2|Si8O22], Albite : Na[AlSi3O8], Braunite : Mn2+Mn3+6[O8|SiO4]

Kajlidongri mine, Jhabua District, Madhya Pradesh, India

Sections of violet prismatic crystals of winchite in albite matrix. It is very probably, that outer purple zones of crystals are represented by another, more interesting amfibole. It is vell visible on small unbroken prisme on the bottom of the photo. Tiny impregnation of black octahedrons of braunite dessiminated in albite. FOV is ~12x10 mm. ...

Embedded crystals of deep royal-purple winchite are here embedded in a massively hefty braunite matrix, something I had not seen before from India. VERY unusual material and occurrence for winchite! 5 x 4.6 x 3 cm

Sections of violet prismatic crystals of winchite in albite matrix. It is very probably, that outer purple zones of crystals are represented by another, more interesting amfibole. Impregnation of black with metallic lustre octahedrons of braunite is more large here. FOV is ~12x10 mm. Specimen was collected by E.J. Beer between 1905 and 1920 on the ...
