Former granite quarry Stubenberg, Stubenberg am See, Weiz, Styria, Austria

Calc-silicate rock with wollastonite (white), grossular + vesuvianite (reddisch), diopside (grey-green). Greyish mass (left) replacing red and green material is calcite + tremolite. Wollastonite : Ca[SiO3]

Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, Argenteuil RCM, Laurentides, Québec, Canada

Long, brown crystal of brown wollastonite. Neither end is terminated. But the crystals faces are clean and lustrous. Overall size of mineral specimen: 6x2.5x.8 cm. Size of individual crystals: 6 cm.

Wollastonite is one of the few minerals that does not form euhedral xls at MSH. This one is a lump of intergrown radiating prisms and blades, partly fibrous. Wollastonite is uncommon at MSH but probably not as rare as the paucity of specimens would suggest.
