Bannisterite : Ca0.5(K,Na)0.5(Mn,Fe,Zn)10(Si,Al)16O38(OH)8·5.5H2O

Broken Hill, Yancowinna Co., New South Wales, Australia

An exceptionally rich specimen for the species with flat, stacked, platelike crystals on feldspar matrix. This is old material, and frankly difficult to find in any quality.Good lustre in person, too, so its not as ugly as it looks! 9.7 x 5.2 x 4.5 cm

This is an outstanding well crystallized example of this rare phyllosilicate. The specimen consists of a complex black lustrous crystal grouping of bannisterite measuring 5.1 x 3.7 x 1.7 cm in size overall. Complete all around and very clean of damage - superb for the species!
