Spinel (Var: Pleonaste) : MgAl2O4

Anteriky, Tuléar (Toliara) Province, Madagascar

Rounded octahedral crystals of black iron spinel (variety pleonaste) with no matrix. There appear to be two crystals stacked on each other. The rounded edges are probably due to alluvial transport from deposit. Ex. A. Stevenson collection #166. Overall size of mineral specimen: 13x12x10 mm. Size of individual crystals: 8-10 mm.
