The famous small find at Shangbao will long be remembered for the honey barrel shaped calcites with the distant white centers so sought after by collectors. Only a very small number were found on fluorite, and i believe this is one of the most aesthetic. 5 3/4 x 4 1/2 x 4.0 inches. The calcite measures 3.0 inches long. Crystal-Odyssey specimen.to ...

Shangbao Pyrite mine, Leiyang Co., Hengyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China

A superb, glowing 5-cm calcite crystal, starkly isolated and centered on the matrix. This large crystal is unusually gemmy for the locality. It is complete and undamaged all the way around, and exposed on all sides. 12 x 9 x 6.2 cm

Shangbao Pyrite mine, Leiyang Co., Hengyang Prefecture, Hunan Province, China

This is, to my knowledge, the largest and most significant specimen from a small find at the Shangbao that is now finished. Very few specimens ever came from this pocket. We had the bulk of them at Tucson and our source brought this one to Denver to finish the lot off with us. Calcites of this form had been seen before, but NOT on fluorite. Even ...
