Picture width is 2,5mm; excellent crystals of chayesite. The oxidised rim of visually identical crystals was tentatively analyzed as merrihueite (see Lapis-Magazine 4/2002 Page 38/39).

Hexagonal reddish chayesite crystals. Photo is about 2.1 mm in length. Specimen obtained from Jaroslav Hyrsl at the Tucson Inn Suites Show last week. Photo and specimen: Steve Stuart.

Note added 2009 Feb 17: The red color appears to be a coating over darker crystals. Possibly hematite? See the two child photos.
