Definition of pin

A section of metal stock, either round or hexagonal (from an old drill steel), tapered on one end, and inserted into a short drill hole in rock to serve as an anchor for sections (loops) of steel cable, support element for shelves, drill steels or other mining gear, or as a hanging point for ladders in work areas. Miners keep work areas uncluttered using pins. (Chet Lemanski)
