A disused quarry that worked decorative stone from an elvan dyke consisting of prominemt phenocrysts of white orthoclase and quartz set in a red, fine grained matrix, with spherulitic black tourmaline.
In 1830 this quarry provided stone for polished slabs used to line the spectacular Porphyry Hall, in Place, Fowey. The stone was also admired by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who visited the quarry in 1846 and were presented with a slab of Tremore stone that now form sills in the main passageway of Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.
A large polished slab of Tremore stone also forms a table top in the rear of Lanlivery Church. In St Austell, tiles of this stone have been incorporated into the floor of the Baptistry in St Austell Parish Church and the front of the West Hill Baptist Church is made of Tremore elvan.

The quarry is now designated as a RIGS (Regionally Important Geological and Geomorphological)Site.
