Fossum jerngruver, Skien kommune, Telemark fylke, Norge

Iron mines who delivered iron ore to Fossum Ironwork. The ore was discovered in the autum 1538 by Hans Glaser, and reported to the Danish king. The oldest mines and the ironwork started the next year and are the second oldest in Norway. The mining of iron ore continued until 1867. The Mines listed here are only the larger and more important mines, but in the area there are many hundreds of smaller mines and prospects.
