Skarn-type copper deposit, hosted by carbonate units of an Early Cretaceous (Valanginian) volcanic-sedimentary sequence intruded by a Cretaceous diorite. The mine is famous for producing high-grade chalcopyrite ores.
Located about 50 km south of La Serena and 400 km north of Santiago.
