A fluorite mine on the Rosiclare vein by the Fairview Fluorspar Comapny (Alcoa)in Rosiclare. The veins were mined underneath the Ohio River and were eventually flooded when the mining punched a hole in the bottom of the river. Mine operated in the early 20th century.
Besides the Good Hope and Extension shafts, ore was removed through the Annex, New, and the No. 4 shafts. Widths of the vein varied from 4 to 12 feet, with a maximum of 20 feet near the surface. See Rosiclare mine for additional details about the vein. [A. Goldstein, Min. Rec., 27:1, 1997, p. 13.]
