Opened in 1898 by the Windsor Colliery Co Ltd and subsequently passing through the ownership of the Windsor Steam Coal Co Ltd. and Powell Duffryn Ltd, the colliery was linked to Universal Colliery at Senghenydd for ventilation purposes and in 1974 it became linked with the Nantgarw colliery. Both collieries were then worked as one unit, coal winding and processing via Nantgarw.
Windsor Colliery closed in November 1986. The dumps have now been removed, with sections built upon or landscaped.
