Manhattan-Staten Island Water Tunnel Rock Dumps, Richmond Co., Staten Island Borough, New York City, New York, USA

Many Water tunnels between Staten Island and Manhattan were built during the 1960's to transport additional water to many new buildings in the growing Staten Island Community. These tunnels intersect bodies of Inwood Marble, Manhattan Schist and a Localized Pegmatite containing many good specimens. Good little specimens of Aquamarine are extremely abundant in blocks of pegmatite. Almandine, Schorl, and Chalcopyrite can be found as fine specimens too.
