Neda Paint Pit, Iron Ridge District (Neda Iron District), Dodge Co., Wisconsin, USA

Location Ne1/4 of NW1/4 of sec 12: T. 11., R. 16E. The Neda Paint Pit was a small open pit mine that was used to recover a low grade iron ore that was used to make ochre pigments for painting. The pit was in operation from 1918 to 1937, during that time the pit produced 13,000 tons of "paint rock" during it's operation. Many old houses and barns in the area were painted with this pigment-based paint. Collecting status at the site is unknown.
