Ancient lead mine (open cut) in the northern part of the Mechernich lead deposit working from 1859 to 1877. The main ore minerals (galena, cerussite and malachite/azurite) are disseminated or occur in nodular impregnations ('Knotten') and veinlets in the lower Triassic sandstones and conglomerates (Middle Bunter Sandstone).
The open cut is located 0.5 km south of Kommern.
