This mine worked a NE-trending pipe vein, hosted in a limestone boulder bed beneath Namurian shales. Mineralization also occurred in presumably Mid-Carboniferous karstic solution caves below the boulder bed.
The ore consists almost entirely of the Blue John variety of fluorite, which lines a series of cavities up to 1.3m in diameter.
