An iron mine operated first by Nevada Mining Co., and later by Hemlock River Mining Co, during 1914 through 1927. 733,327 tons of ore were shipped from workings that reached 850 feet depth. The mine exploited the middle-Precambrian Amasa Iron Formation of the Baraga Group. The property description is N1/2-NE and SE-NE Sec. 22 T44N-R33W, which is 120 acres between N46º11'58", N46º12'11", W88º24'32", and W88º25'9", and between N46º11'45", N46º11'58", W88º24'31", and W88º24'50".
