An underground copper mine consisting of 6 shafts located near Mandan. The Bluff Mining Company was organized in 1852 and sank two shafts on a fissure discovered crossing the property. The company drifted out approximately 600 feet. Little copper was recovered and the mine was abandoned in 1855. In 1856, the Pennsylvania Mining Company took ownership of the property and created the Wyoming Mining Company to explore the area. Six veins of copper rich rock were discovered and in 1865, the company sank four additional shafts on the veins. In addition, a crosscut was created between the old Bluff adit and the new No. 4 Shaft of the Wyoming in an effort to drain water. All work ceased in 1866 after very little copper was recovered. The area around the mine is accessible, but very little of the original pile remains. Some copper and datolite can be found.
