An iron mine in magnetite ore located on Mine HIll, West of Dover. Started before 1855 & closed initially in 1868. Reopened 1872-1874, 1879-1883, & before 1868-1897. Ore deposit was termed the New Sterling shoot at 65 feet high, 2½ to 6 feet wide and 1,150 feet long. Workings were 100 feet long by 70 feet deep by 1868. Produced 450,000 tons ore.
