A gold mine located in the SE 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of Section 36. T48N R28W.
A four foot wide vein of gold bearing quartz was discovered by men from the Grummett Mine in 1886 and a shallow shaft was sunk. In 1888, the Grummett sold the land to a group of investors from Chicago who named their company the Giant Gold and Silver Mining Company. At the same time, a machine was invented by investors in the mine that claimed to separate gold from its ore, and these men sought to prove their machine's capabilities using this gold prospect. No free gold was found in the shaft, however, and the prospect was abandoned in 1889.
