La Joya Mine, Cabanas district, Zacapa Department, Guatemala

A chromite mine in serpentine host rock. Located at an elevation of 700 meters near the Chimilapa river, south of Rosario, NW of San Diego. Nodules and masses of chromite to several meters long occur along sheared and slickensided serpentine. Worked by a cut bench and a couple of trenches to roughly 4 meters deep.
