Magma Chief Copper Mine (Magma Chief group of claims; Magma Chief Mine; Patented claims MS 3482; Patented claim MS 3483), Superior, Pioneer District, Pinal Mts, Pinal Co., Arizona, USA

A former underground Ag-Cu-Au-Zn-Mn-Pb mine located in sec. 26, T1S, R12E, about 1 mile N of Superior and about 2 miles SW of Kings Crown Peak, on private land. Produced during the period 1940-1947. Claims extend into sec. 25. The original Baltimore shaft of the Magma Chief was located in the SW¼ sec. 24. Owned by the Magma Copper Co. Operated by K. Pomeroy (1940's). Claims included the Baltimore, Watson, Picketpost, Lonewedge, Palace, Tuna, and the Gerald Canlser.

Mineralization is a replacement deposit in Escabrosa Limestone and Martin Limestone. Ore control was contact of the two limestone units. Orebody was lens-shaped masses striking N10W, dipping 20-30NE, at 3.66 meters thick. Area structures include E-W-trending faults cutting N-S-trending fault systems. The E-W Conley Springs Falt is ¼ mile north of the mine.

Regional structures include EW-trending faults cutting N-S-trending fault systems, the E-W Conley Springs Fault is ¼ mile N of the mine.

Oldest workings are the Baltimore tunnel; the largest workings are the Watson tunnel, running E-W. There are two shorter tunnels on the Picket Ppost claim. Magma Chief Copper Co. dug the Watson and Baltimore tunnels around 1917. The same Magma Chief Copper Cco. also owned the Magma Chief Mine in the Bunker Hill District.
