Chicago pit (Great Lakes Carbon Co. Mine; Filter International Chicago pit; Nord Sil-Flo pit; Old Ciff pit), Picketpost Mountain area, Superior, Superior District, Pinal Co., Arizona, USA
A former surface perlite mine located in the N½ sec. 16, T2S, R12E, about 1¾ miles E of Picketpost Mounain and about 3 miles SSW of Superior, on National Forest land. Owned by the Great Lakes Carbon Co. of California (1957). Operated by Nord Perlite Co. NOTE: Perlite deposits in the vicinity of Picketpost Mountain may contain Apache tears. NOTE: Alternate coordinates provided: 33°15'37"N, 111°7'14"
Mineralization is a perlite deposit hosted in Arnett Rhyolite and obsidian. The ore zone is 13.72 meters thick.
