Camp dels Ninots, Caldes de Malavella, Selva, Girona (Gerona), Catalonia, Spain

Caldes is one of the first villages located beyond the Littoral Mountain Range in the Girona Plane that extends all aroung the city of Girona. Below that plane formed by sedimentary deposits, there emerge several volcanic areas at places, where the sediments are less thick. Caldes belongs to the Selva Volcanic Area. It consists of several 30 mill. years old volcanos, one of them very famous, just at the entrance of the village, called "Camp dels ninots" (Figurine Field), where sometimes opal varieties can be found. Another volcano lays to the SW and serves as the basement for an ancient monastery, and another is located just in front of the railway station, but is now just a pool for ducks.
