Giacimento di fluorite del Monte delle Fate, Cerveteri, CittΓ metropolitana di Roma Capitale (Provincia di Roma), Lazio, Italia
Epithermal fluorite deposit, Quaternary in age, developed along a fault stretching for several hundred meters along the western slope of Monte delle Fate. The host rocks are Liassic limestones, a calcareous-marl formation ("Scaglia") of Turonian-Oligocene age and the Upper Cretaceous - Paleocene flysch.
Underground mining operation were performed in the period 1952-1967 (Macchia Fumarolo and Monte delle Fate mining concessions).
Other minor fluorite mineralizations, consisting of NW-SE-trending veins, are embedded in the massive limestone of Monte delle Fate. From these veins good mineral specimens have been recovered (Carlini, 2018).
Furthermore, detrital fragments of fluorite are present in the detrital layers on the top of Monte delle Fate and along its slopes.
