This old mine lies NE of the Red Lead and is probably the small group of workings east of the Platt Prospect. The lode may be related to the Platt lode, but strikes NW rather than NE. It is hosted by sandstone between two serpentinite bodies, but close to the serpentinite/sediment contact, and the upper adit intersects fresh serpentinite. Montgomery (1890) noted that the nearby serpentinite was attractive and had good potential for lapidary purposes, and Mike and Eleanor Phelan are currently open-cut mining it for stichtite and serpentine for carving and polishing (Bottrill and Graham, this issue). The lode is in a breccia zone to 13 m wide, and is represented by a ferromanganese gossan at the surface. The lode contains dolomite, “manganosiderite” (siderite-rhodochrosite), galena, sphalerite, quartz and minor pyrite. Workings include three adits but the extent of ore production is unknown. To our knowledge no recent work has been done in the mine, but some crocoite, cerussite and galena can be found on the dumps and the collecting potential is good.
