A massive sulphide deposit, 400 meters diameter and 30 meters high, currenty being deposited by hydrothermal activity ("black smokers" with temperatures up to 278 C) on the seafloor at depths between 1,210 to 1,400 meters on the slopes of Myojin Knoll. This actively growing deposit provides a model for the formation of kuroko-type orebodies. Likely to become one of the first such deposits to be mined in the future for its gold and silver values when undersea mining technology is developed.
