Old lead-silver ore field, earliest mentioned 1551. Closed in the mid 1800s.

Guldsmedshyttan ("The goldsmith's cabin") is part of the Storå settlement in Lindesberg municipality. The foundry company Baettr Guldsmedshyttan AB is located in the village.

The town is located on national highway 50, about 15 kilometers north of Lindesberg.

Guldsmedshyttan is mentioned in old documents for the first time around the year 1460. In the 15th century, silver ore was mined here and there was a cabin for the production of the silver. In 1551, Gustav Vasa built a crown mill in the Guldsmedshyttan. The facility came to include blast furnaces, piece mills, ball foundry and gun pipe forge.

Guldsmedhyttan is an old mining and mill community built around the 1977 closed Stripa mine and Guldsmedhyttan's mill. The mill was built in the 16th century and expanded into a modern industry at the end of the 19th century. The last blast furnace at Guldsmedshytte mill was finally blown down in 1978 by the then owner, Sandvik AB.

Stripa mine in Guldsmedhyttan was declared an architectural monument in 2006.

Nowadays, the mill is specialized as a manufacturer of ductile iron for wind turbines (Vestas). The mill's mechanical workshop has been owned by Empower since 2006.
