Nevada owes it's creation due to mining. The silver rich Comstock lode spurred early prospecting in the state, Currently gold production from Carlin trend deposits is a major contributor to Nevada's mining.
The state is primarily in the Basin and Range province (north/south trending block faulted mountain ranges separated by alluvium generated from the mountains).
Best source of information is the Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology. District lists from J. Tingley Mining Districts of Nevada Report-47. County Reports for each of the counties in the state.
