Pingxingguan Fe deposit, Lingqiu Co., Datong Prefecture, Shanxi Province, China

Banded iron formation (BIF), related to metamorphic rocks of the Wenyu Formation of the Archean Wutai Group, comprising two members. The upper member consists of quartz amphibolite and minor chlorite amphibolite, biotite amphibolite and BIF, the lower member consists of migmatized granitoid gneiss and amphibolite. The formation is a sequence of volcanic-sedimentation. There are three Fe horizons, each of which contains three Fe beds. Both horizons and beds occur in migmatite as relict inclusions. The orebodies are stratiform or lenticular.
