Kiruna district, Lappland, Sweden

Mining district that includes Kirunavaara, Luossavaara, Rektorn, Haukivaara, Tuollavaara, Lappmalmen and Nukutus.
Note: the localities listed under Kiruna (town) are only those very close to the town.

An iron mining area (apatite-bearing iron ore)in production since end of the 19th century.
Copper mining took place already in middle of the 17th century (Svappavaara) but also recently (Viscaria, Pahtahavara- closed 1997).
