Banded iron formation (BIF), hosted in a box syncline in the western of the two ore belts worked by the Qian'an Mine. The deposit consists of stratiform and lensoid bodies. They are not continuous, extend 4600 m along strike and are 9-63 m thick. The minerals occur mainly in bands, and to a lesser extent in laminae and masses.
