Banded iron formation (BIF), occurring in the Shenmiao Formation of the Archean Zhangjiafen Group that consists of varied biotite amphibole gneiss, amphibolite, quartzite, biotite schist, and local migmatite. The orebodies are mainly stratiform, lenticular, and lensoid; branching and mingling are common. The host units are magnetite quartzite, magnetite gneiss, magnetite amphibolite, magnetite-amphibole quartzite and garnet-magnetite gneiss. The main ore mineral textures are granoblastic and metasomatic. Ore mineral structures are typically banded, disseminated, gneissic, and massive.
