Quartz geodes to 12.5 cm diameter, and lined with 2-3 mm clear to smoky quartz crystals with minute goethite inclusions occur on the beach at Kenfig. Rare grey/brown calcite crystals to 25 mm also occur in the geodes. Similar geodes, but of a lesser quality, occur in the Triassic breccias that outcrop along the beach, as noted by de la Beche (1846). It is possible that the origin of those found on the beach lies somewhere offshore.
