Wheal Franco (New Wheal Franco; Old Wheal Franco), Wheal Franco Consols, Whitchurch, Tavistock District, Devon, England, UK

The principal copper mine of the area around Tavistock, Wh Franco was a large set extending along the south bank of the River Walkham, with an older part (known as Old Wh Franco) on the western side of the Plymouth to Tavistock Road (Hamilton Jenkin 1974).

Working was initially on the Old Wh Franco Part of the set that between 1823 -43 produced £60000 worth of ore. After the Old Wh Franco set was thought to be exhausted, a shaft was sunk east of the Plymouth to Tavistock Road (the area known as New Wh Franco), which then became the active centre of the mine. Operations continued till 1862, producing £51500 worth of ore.
