Garfagnana was particularly rich of Lignite deposits. These deposits, consituted by Pliocenic-Pleistocenic gravels, sands and clays were once excavated to extract lignite and, in Castelnuovo area, bituminous lignite; actually these mines are completely abandoned and their entrances almost covered by vegetation or buried under new constructions. Also the TL of Dinite is completely obliterated.
