National Mine, Rockland, Ontonagon Co., Michigan, USA
An underground copper mine consisting of seven shafts located just south of Rockland, MI. The National Mine was chartered in 1848 and worked until 1871. The mine was worked on tribute until 1893, when the mine was closed for good. The National Mine produced approx. 11.6 million lbs. of refined copper. The mine piles today produce quality copper and silver crystals, copper chisel chips, and malachite.
