Oval Pit pyrophyllite mine
An open pit pyrophyllite mine located SE of Foxtrap. Started 1903 and reopened 1956. Owned by Newfoundland Minerals, Ltd.
The pit is partially flooded (2020).
Mineralization is in the Harbour Main group.
Produces(ed) 30,000 to 40,000 short tons/year.
Workings feature a 500 meters long by 400 meters wide and 50 meters deep pit.
