This area is mainly a forestry reserve, where fossicking is allowed by means of a permit system. (Permits are available through the Mt. Crawford forest headquarters and information centre.) The area has several old goldfields scattered through the forest, as well as many pegmatites with a wide variety of minerals. The most common being Schorl, Muscovite and Beryl.
