The Mengxing Pb–Zn deposit, which contains up to 1.02 Mt of Pb + Zn metal with an average Pb + Zn grade of ca. 12.13 %, is a representative of sedimentary–reworked deposit in western Yunnan. The deposit is comprised of 45 strata–bound orebodies in the Silurian Shangrenheqiao formation. The mineralization process has been divided into sedimentary stage and hydrothermal stage. The pre–enrichment of metals of early stratified Sedex–type ore–bodies is crucial for the formation of the Mengxing deposit.
This stratigraphically and structurally controlled deposit boasts a significant extension of the ore bearing zone, spanning approximately 10 km, and is characterized by a large number of ore bodies (up to 45) with relatively high grade (average Pb + Zn grade of 12.13 %) and associated useful elements such as Ge, Cd, Ag, Tl, and Bi. The strata–bound, lens–like, pod–like, and veined ore bodies are hosted within the strata and inter-layer fracture zone of the lower member of the Middle Silurian Shangrenheqiao formation.
