A former underground Cu mine/prospect located in sec. 25, T23S, R24E, about 3 miles east of Don Luis, AZ. Property consists of 12 claims (3 fractional) covering 191 acres. Partly patented. Owned by the Portage Lake and BisbeeMining Co., Negaunee, MI (1943).
Mineralization is hosted in Escabrosa Limestone.
The Portage Lake and Calumet Development Company attempted to sink an exploration shaft before 1903 but suspended sinking at 302 feet depth due to the inability to handle water. The company was reorganized April, 1903, as the Portage Lake and Bisbee Mining Company. Extensive diamond drilling 1903 to 1904 cut an extensive leached deposit but no workable ore bodies. No work done since 1904. No Production to 1/1943. Workings include a two-compartment shaft 302 feet deep.
