A group of former small surface and underground Cu-Ag-W prospects/mine loccated in secs. 11-14, 23, & 24, T16S, R22E., NW, W and SW of Dragoon. Discovered 1914 by J.B. Gregory, Jim Neal, C.F.Elliot, Thomas Higgins, H.J. Clifford, and O.T. Smith. Owned by the Empire Copper and Gold Mining Co. Operated by Mr. John Walker.
Mineralization is hosted in Horquilla Limestone and the Texas Canyon Quartz Monzonite. The ore body is tabular.
Local structures include Tertiary block faulting trending NNW. Regionally, Late Cretaceous or Early Tertiary N- to NW-trending folds and thrust aults override to the NE. Most ore from the prospects in this area come from numerous small quartz veins, and most of these deposits are too small for profitable mining. Hundreds of small prospects are in this general area. Nearly all are uneconomic, containing small low-grade concentrations of oxidized copper minerals and in some places scheelite.
Hundreds of small pits and shafts are sunk in this general area. The development in the area includes occurrences, raw prospects, developed prospects and producers.
