The Gordaite with Thenardite is a serendipitous find. A collecting group stopped at a narrow spot in the upper reaches of the wash to collect a few samples of the stream-worn pebbles, to about 10 cm diameter, from a standing pool of water. Coincidentally Chet Lemanski picked up one pebble that was indiscernably comprised of lean zinc ore (Sphalerite) in a calcite matrix. Again, coincidentally, that pebble was one of several randomly submitted to Josef Vajdak, Pequa Rare Minerals, to confirm the Thenardite and determine if there were any additional evaporite minerals present. All tested only for Thenardite except the lean ore piece, which provided the Gordaite!!
