A former small marble quarry located in the SW¼ sec. 19, T18S, R11E, 50 miles SW of Tucson on state and federal lands. Produced 1959-1965. Owned by Dale C. Brittain and Arthur Hendrickson (1964); Operated by the Brittain-Hendrickson Mining Co. (1965). The White Hope marble deposit is on Arizona state mineral lease lands and federal land of the southwest side of the Sierrita Mountains.
Mineralization is limestone/marble of the Martin Formation.
This marble contains small amounts of pyrite that oxidize when exposed to weather and stain the marble. The marble is typically fine-grained and jointed. The zones of high calcium carbonate rocks are separated by zones of dolomite.
There are 3 quarries in this quarter section. The Paul Lime Company estimated 4 to 5 million tons of marblized limestone from 7 drill holes in 1961.
